My mind was racing as fast as a racecar with thoughts going all over my head. I didn’t know what to think of this! What could be going on? Only none could have guessed what happened.
It was a Saturday evening; the temperature was in the 70’s. It was still scorching hot. My keen eyes could see the steam coming up from the road. My mom got on her cell and seemed very calm until the middle of the conversation. She started talking as rapid as the waves in the Colorado River. Her questions and comments certainly got my mind going. When she hung up I asked no questions but she made a strange turn not going to our house. That’s when I asked all the questions I could think of.
“Mom, this is the wrong way where are we going?” I asked frightened
“This is a very scary situation and I am very worried,” she said. “Our new pup, Wrigley, just got hit be a car driving by on our neighborhood.”
“That’s terrible!” I cried. “Are we going to the hospital?”
“I’m afraid we are,” she whimpered.
The rest of the way to the hospital none of us said a word. My mom drove as fast racecar driver it seemed like. None of us could hardly bare to breathe. When we finally got to the hospital we were waiting there for about 5 minutes before my dad my brother Chad and Wrigley my dog were rushed in through the door. I could only watch in terror as my dad franticly to the lady at the front counter.
“No news,” he said as he came back to the waiting area. “They said it could take up to another hour.”
“Mom, can I stay?” I asked as my eyes filled up with tears.
“It’s getting late, let’s go back home,” Mom said.
“The doc said they will keep Wrigley for the night to make sure he is okay,”
“I know he is going to be okay!” I screamed with tears rolling out in my eyes. “Wrigley never gives up, he is my best friend and I won’t lose him!”
I couldn’t bare to take the stress anymore.
“Just take me home,” I cried.
The rest of the night I couldn’t sleep at all because of what I was thinking. Will Wrigley live? What happens if he doesn’t? What happens if he does? Will he be the same? I was trying to fight the tears the whole night.
